LCS, automated warehouses and material handling

A pioneer of Industry 4.0, with proposals aimed at intralogistics automation processes since 1989, LCS is today highly specialized in the design and implementation of turnkey solutions for automated warehouses and material handling. Solutions developed and designed in the smallest details, reliable over time and that guarantee the maximum added value to the customer.

LCS is an intralogistics specialist and has several proprietary software modules in its portfolio that allow to automate and control the flow of material within the factory, from handling to storage, up to picking and preparation of the shipment. LogiMHS (Material Handling System) is LCS’s modular material handling and management solution, which the software specialists adapt and customize to a wide range of design requirements. LogiMHS offers high scalability, maximum customization possibilities and the availability of many specialized modules proven in 30 years of experience:

  • LogiWARE for the physical management of the automatic warehouse
  • LogiCON for the supervision and control of stacker cranes and conveyors
  • LogiDRIVE for the supervision and control of LGV/ AGV/ AIV vehicles
  • LogiCRANE for the supervision and control of bridge cranes
  • LogiTRASP for the control of automatic handling systems
LogiTRASLO for the control of stacker cranes
  • For each implementation, LCS ensures simplicity and intuitiveness of the interface at all levels, the real-time system status displayed on the layout and a dedicated dashboard for continuous
  • KPI monitoring.
  • LCS offers turnkey solutions by integrating the most appropriate software to its mechanics, creating handling and storage systems that meet the most diverse design needs: automatic warehouses for pallets and cases, for boxes and crates, with stacker cranes, miniloads or shuttle/multi-shuttle, in single, double or multi-deep, self-supporting and indoor (to name a few).

LCS offers turnkey solutions by integrating the most appropriate software to its mechanics, creating handling and storage systems that meet the most diverse design needs: automatic warehouses for pallets and cases, for boxes and crates, with stacker cranes, miniloads or shuttle/multi-shuttle, in single, double or multi-deep, self-supporting and indoor (to name a few).

LCS manages the entire life cycle of a plant, from design and software development to installation and full service for the life cycle with preventive maintenance, 24/7 assistance and revamping. The latter allows the technological status of the automatic warehouse to be updated on an electrical, mechanical, software or CE marking level, depending on requirements. LCS designs and carries out revamping and expansion interventions at all levels, also for plants built by third parties, guaranteeing greater and constant control over the product as well as greater safety for operators, according to the best current standards.

Revamping and expansion of an automatic warehouse to keep customer satisfaction high

The revamping project and expansion of the automatic warehouse created by LCS for Vitale Barberis Canonico, one of the oldest wool factories in the world, began in 2017 following a production of over 10 million metres of fabric with over 3,000 variants. In addition, customers ordered the pieces of fabric for tailoring production almost in just-in-time and the supply had to be timely.

First of all, the revamping of the automatic yarn warehouse carried out by LCS regenerated the stacker cranes that presented mechanical, positioning, low performance and spare parts problems. Subsequently, LCS was responsible for the expansion of the intensive yarn warehouse consisting of 3 stacker cranes with 3,024 pallet places and the complete refurbishment of the internal and external conveyors. In particular, the storage capacity was expanded with a new plant equipped with 2 stacker cranes with 4 new shelving fronts for a total of 2,106 pallet slots. A complete refurbishment of the internal and external conveyors was then carried out to drastically increase the performance of the load unit extraction circuits with replacement of the warehouse front at the weaving and warping levels, insertion of a recirculation ring and new picking/counter-picking carousels and a double shuttle capable of handling the entire front of 5 stacker cranes.
Finally, LCS intervened on LogiWare, LCS proprietary software for automatic warehouse management, in order to enable it to manage the new handling functions. The entire area was then prepared for future expansions.

The technological revamping and expansion of the warehouse have led to greater control over the product as well as ensuring greater safety for operators. The redefinition of flows has solved the congestion in the goods handling areas and has made the flow in the Vitale Barberis Canonico warehouse consistent with the extreme service requirements of the wool factory’s international customers.

Thanks to LCS interventions, the automatic warehouse has evolved, expressing today greater productivity, effectiveness and efficiency to meet the growing needs of customers, increasingly changing in response to new emerging market trends.
